Saffron’s UTI recovery

Patient details

Name: Saffron
Age: 9 years, 9 months
Breed: Domestic Medium Hair
Gender: Female (spayed)

Saffron, a beautiful grey and white Domestic Medium Hair, was transferred to our team for specialist care after experiencing difficulty urinating (stranguria), blood in her urine (hematuria) and sudden vomiting.

Referred by the team at AES, she was admitted for further diagnostics and treatment. Under the care of Dr Wan Ju Jao and our internal medicine team, Saffron received a thorough evaluation and a targeted treatment plan to aid her recovery.

Patient history

Initial presentation

In November 2024, Saffron was presented to AES with acute urinary and gastrointestinal symptoms. Given the severity of her condition, she was transferred to Cat Specialist Services for further investigation and management.
Diagnostics and treatment

Upon arrival, Saffron underwent a comprehensive diagnostic workup, including an ultrasound, a urine culture and a sensitivity test. These tests confirmed a urinary tract infection (UTI), which was the underlying cause of her distressing symptoms.
To support her recovery, our team provided pain relief, intravenous fluids and a course of antibiotics tailored to the infection. She was also administered anti-nausea medication (maropitant) to manage her vomiting and ensure her comfort during treatment.
Follow-up and outcome

During her hospital stay, Saffron responded exceptionally well to supportive care. She regained her appetite, her urinary symptoms resolved, and she remained bright and comfortable throughout her treatment. She was the perfect patient.
Her owners were relieved and excited for her to return home happy and healthy.
We are delighted to have been part of Saffron’s journey to recovery and appreciate the trust her family placed in our team.
