Patient details

Name: Kitty
Age: 12 years
Breed: Domestic Medium Hair
Gender: Female

We first met Kitty after she was referred to CSS for the evaluation of a large intestinal mass. She was diagnosed with high-grade alimentary lymphoma and underwent surgery followed by a multi-agent chemotherapy protocol.

Despite the seriousness of her condition, Kitty has remained in complete remission and continues to do well now that she’s off treatment.

Patient history

Early signs

The first signs that something wasn’t quite right for Kitty were weight loss and lethargy. Her local vet identified a large abdominal mass and referred her for further investigation. Imaging confirmed an intestinal lesion with associated lymphadenopathy.

Diagnosis and treatment

Kitty first had surgery to remove the affected segment and confirm her diagnosis. The histopathology revealed large cell lymphoma.
Following this procedure, Kitty began a multi-agent CHOP-based chemotherapy protocol under the care of the oncology team at CSS. Overall, she tolerated the treatment well; however, we did have to make some adjustments at times to balance her very strong opinions with the clinical plan. It was no trouble for our experienced team, and she maintained a healthy weight and appetite throughout the whole process while under careful monitoring for any adverse effects.

Outcome

Following the successful completion of her course of chemotherapy, this beautiful girl has remained in complete remission. She’s living her best life at home, no more signs of disease. Kitty is a great reminder that long-term outcomes are achievable with early intervention, appropriate treatment and a tailored approach.
