Vets & Nurses

The Jindalee, Hotel Jindalee QLD, Australia

Join us for an exclusive, clinically focused seminar designed specifically for veterinarians and veterinary nurses, proudly presented by Animal Emergency Service (AES) and Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS).

This is your opportunity to strengthen your emergency and critical care capabilities through two highly practical, case-based presentations delivered by experienced specialists in the field.

Featuring Dr Geoffrey Dodds and Dr Cormac O’Brolchain, this seminar is tailored to support clinicians working across general practice, emergency, and surgical settings. You’ll walk away with actionable knowledge and greater confidence in managing some of the most challenging and high-pressure cases in veterinary medicine.

"Fluids...Breaking it down" Fluid Therapy in the Emergency Patient

Dr. Geoffrey Dodds BVSc MANZCVS

Fluid therapy is one of the most fundamental — and often most complex — aspects of emergency care. In this practical session, Dr Dodds breaks it down into a clear, step-by-step approach you can apply in real time.

Covering assessment of perfusion and hydration, fluid selection, rate calculations, and ongoing monitoring, this talk uses real-world scenarios such as haemabdomen, hypoproteinaemia, cardiac compromise, and perioperative hypotension to bring concepts to life. With a strong emphasis on current physiology and evidence-based decision-making, you’ll gain confidence in tailoring fluid therapy to each patient at the bedside.

Septic Peritonitis: From Recognition to Resolution

Dr Cormac O’Brolchain – MVB FANZCVS Specialist Small Animal Surgeon
Dr Jason Wang – BVSc (Hons) Senior Surgery Intern

This session provides a practical and accessible overview of septic peritonitis in small animals — one of the most critical abdominal emergencies encountered in practice.

Focusing on real-world application, the presentation will guide attendees through early recognition, patient stabilisation, and key surgical considerations. Designed for both veterinarians and veterinary nurses, this talk aims to build confidence in clinical decision-making and improve outcomes in these high-risk cases.
