Ares is a handsome young Maine Coon who was referred to CSS after presenting at AES with sudden lameness in his back leg. Testing revealed a capital physeal fracture in his left hip. He was then transferred for surgery.

With prompt diagnosis and expert care, we’re pleased to report that Ares recovered well and quickly returned to his affectionate and playful self.

Patient history

Presentation

Ares visited us in October 2024 after imaging at AES confirmed his fracture. Considering his age and breed, the results matched what we’d usually expect to see in this kind of case. Working closely with the referring team, we were able to plan his surgery promptly, and Ares was admitted for treatment.

Surgical treatment

Ares underwent a closed reduction and internal fixation to stabilise the fracture with pin placement. The procedure went smoothly, and he recovered well during his hospital stay. He was discharged the next day and continued to heal comfortably at home.

Outcome

Ares returned a few weeks later in December for the planned removal of his pin. His recovery continued without incident, and he remained weight-bearing and active throughout. He was a delightful patient in the hospital who remained calm, affectionate and always eager for attention.
