A Good Outcome for Goose

Goose

Patient details

Name: Goose
Age: 2 years old
Breed: British Shorthair
Gender: Female

Goose fell seriously ill late last year, showing signs of lethargy and a reduced appetite.

After being referred to CSS, she was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a condition once considered incurable. Thanks to new antiviral treatments, Goose has made an incredible recovery and is now in remission!

We are delighted to have been part of Goose’s journey and are so pleased to see her thriving.

Patient history

Initial presentation

Goose was first seen by the Animal Emergency Service after presenting with lethargy and a lack of appetite. Following further evaluation at CSS, fluid was found in her chest and abdomen. Diagnostics and clinical signs led to the diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), caused by a mutation of Feline Coronavirus.

Treatment with antivirals

FIP, once considered fatal, now has effective antiviral treatments available. Goose’s treatment began with injectable Remdesivir, followed by an oral course of GS-441524. Though she showed improvement, some symptoms persisted, leading the CSS team to switch her to Molnupiravir.

Outcome

Goose has been off all medications for over a month and is in remission! She’s living her best life and enjoying her newfound health, and we couldn’t be happier with her recovery.
