Preparing Emeraid Diets for Oesophagostomy Tube Feeding

Preparing emeraid intensive care food

When your cat goes home with a feeding tube, we’ll supply Emeraid Intensive Care to meet their nutritional needs during recovery. Here’s how to prepare it at home to make feeding as smooth as possible. While we’ll include instructions with the food, you can also follow along here or watch our video for a detailed guide.

What you’ll need:

  • Bag of Emeraid Intensive Care food (provided by us)
  • Plain tap water
  • Container for mixing
  • Hand stick blender or whisk (optional: spoon or fork)

Mixing instructions

To ensure proper feeding, it’s essential to achieve a smooth consistency when preparing Emeraid Intensive Care food. This allows the food to be easily drawn into a syringe for administration.

Preparation steps:

  1. Open the bag of Emeraid Intensive Care food.
  2. Measure 1.5 scoops of powder into a mixing container using the provided scoop.
  3. Add two scoops of water with the same scoop.
  4. Mix thoroughly until the texture is smooth enough to draw into a syringe.
  5. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.

Cat Feeding and Storage Guidelines

Feeding and storage guidelines

Refer to the personalised feeding plan we’ve provided, detailing the amounts to give your cat. For optimal freshness, prepare enough food for one or two feedings each day. Since this highly digestible food can be prone to bacterial growth, it’s best to mix a fresh batch every 24 hours.

Remember to refrigerate the opened bag to keep it safe for your cat’s next meal.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully prepared the Emeraid Intensive Care powder for your cat’s feeding at home.

Patient Stories

Our commitment to feline health is best seen in the stories of the cats we’ve had the privilege of treating. These journeys highlight the dedication, expertise and compassion that drive us.

Each patient faced unique challenges, and it was our honour to offer high-quality care and help them regain strength and happiness. We value the deep bonds with cats and their owners, knowing the difference we make in their lives.

Toffee faced a frightening battle with tick paralysis and aspiration pneumonia, she was rushed to AES when her owners noticed her vomiting, breathing difficulties and trouble walking.

JJ & the Lily – a close call

Mischievous JJ had a close call when he ingested part of a lily—an extremely toxic plant for cats. Thanks to the quick actions of his owner, Sophie, a VSS vet nurse, JJ made a full recovery.

Han’s Hip Fracture Surgery

Han presented after limping on his hind leg for two weeks following an accident at home. An X-ray revealed a fractured growth plate in his hip, requiring surgery to repair the injury.

Coco and Kidney Troubles

Coco stayed with us at CSS while recovering from a nephrectomy (the surgical kidney removal). After months of unsuccessful treatment for a ureteral obstruction, this became necessary.
