Nikita’s Battle with Diabetes

Nikita’s Battle with Diabetes

Patient details

Name: Nikita
Age: 16 years old
Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Gender: Female

Nikita is a remarkable cat who has been under our care for asthma, osteoarthritis and diabetes.

Thanks to her proactive owner and the use of advanced tools like a blood glucose sensor, we’ve successfully managed her diabetes. Nikita’s resilience and her owner’s dedication have made her journey truly inspiring.

We are thrilled to be part of Nikita’s ongoing care and celebrate each milestone in her health journey.

Patient history

June 2022

Nikita first presented to CSS with uncontrolled diabetes. Over time, we worked closely with her owner to manage her condition, adjusting insulin dosages as needed to improve her health.

Ongoing Management

During her most recent visit, Dr. Kristy Stone applied a blood glucose sensor to help monitor Nikita’s diabetes more efficiently. This sensor provides real-time glucose readings, which can be scanned with a smartphone, making it easier for her owner to keep track of her levels.

Outcome

We were delighted to receive an update celebrating Nikita’s 16th birthday:

“Thank you all for saving Keety! She did it—she made it to 16! She first came to you on June 20, 2022, and I’ll never forget that horrific day. After two years of largely uncontrollable diabetes, she is still going strong! We’ve been giving her 5 units morning and night since we saw you and she has improved. Lots of love, Anna and Nikita.”

Expert care and a tailored plan saved Ed from pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is an inflammatory condition that disrupts digestion and often goes unnoticed until a cat becomes seriously ill. That was the case for Ed, whose vague symptoms progressed into a life-threatening emergency. Thankfully, with expert care from Cat Specialist Services, she made a full recovery.

Tango Triumphs Over FIP

At 5 months old, Tango was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Once considered a fatal disease, the introduction of new treatments has significantly boosted the survival rate.
