Coco and Kidney Troubles

Coco the Cat

Patient details

Name: Coco
Age: 12 years old
Breed: Burmese
Gender: Female

Coco stayed with us at CSS while recovering from a nephrectomy (the surgical removal of one kidney).

After months of unsuccessful treatment for a ureteral obstruction, surgery became necessary.

Thanks to expert care, Coco is now back home and thriving with her one remaining kidney.

Patient history

Initial presentation

Coco had been receiving treatment for two months for a ureteral obstruction, a blockage that connects the kidneys to the bladder. Unfortunately, the treatments were unable to pass the obstruction, leading to the decision to proceed with surgery.

Surgery and treatment

Coco’s surgery involved removing the affected ureter along with the damaged kidney due to the blockage. Dr Wendy Archipow, a specialist surgeon at VSS Underwood, successfully performed the procedure.

Outcome

Coco stayed with us at CSS for three days while she recovered from her nephrectomy. She handled both the surgery and recovery process exceptionally well and has since returned home, where she is doing great with her one remaining kidney.
