Mia, a beautiful Burmese kitten, came to us with lethargy, reduced appetite and abdominal pain.

After a thorough examination and diagnostics, Mia was diagnosed with pyelonephritis, an infection that had spread to her left kidney.

Thanks to timely intervention, Mia has made a remarkable recovery.

Patient history

Initial presentation

Mia first presented with symptoms of lethargy, reduced appetite, abdominal pain and a mucoid discharge from her vulva. After being assessed by Dr Alison Jukes, our Feline Medicine Specialist, Mia was diagnosed with pyelonephritis—a serious urinary tract infection that had progressed to her left kidney.

Diagnostics and treatment

An abdominal ultrasound revealed mild renal pelvic dilation in Mia’s right kidney and severe dilation in her left kidney. Mia was hospitalised for treatment, receiving pain relief and antibiotics to address the infection. She was then sent home to rest and recover.

Follow-up and outcome

During her follow-up ultrasound and check-up, Mia’s imaging, bloodwork and urine culture results were normal. With the infection successfully treated, Mia was able to proceed with her desexing surgery.
